April Builders Theme
I am a builder when I use kind and courteous words.
Have you ever thrown a rock or pebble into a pond or lake and noticed the little waves that ripple away from the center in circles? Courteous and kind words have that rippling effect on others and can result in good things. Mother Teresa said, “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
Echoes are like ripples; they go on and on. Take the time to be courteous and kind this week by honoring someone’s accomplishment, expressing gratitude for something they say or do; offering a hug or a smile; or taking time to listen. One of my favorite examples of courtesy is having students hold the door open for me at school. Remember, courtesy and kindness don’t just enhance the lives of others; they create ripples in your life as well by strengthening your relationships, building trust, and spreading good cheer.
From the Academic Office
Your student’s grades have been posted in ALMA. We also have printed them out and will be mailing them this week. If you have questions, please contact your student’s homeroom teacher.
Our teacher’s will be taking a well-deserved break this week, so please understand that they might not contact you until we resume Home Learning on April 13th.

Parent Advisory Committee Elections
We are in the process of creating our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) for the 2020-21 school year. PAC participates with the administration in developing the Annual School Plan, in deciding how the Land Trust monies will be spent, and other matters important to our students at American Preparatory Academy. We have 3 parent PAC positions to fill at APA-Draper 2. Parents of students who are employed 6 or more hours per week at the school are disqualified from participating as an elected parent. The PAC generally meets 3-4 times per year. Members of the PAC will be expected to participate in all of these meetings so that a quorum may be present to conduct business. There are no term limits, so long as an elected parent has students enrolled in the school, is actively participating, and wishes to continue to do so.
If you are interested, please contact Katie Fuller, firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, April 17th, 2020, at 4pm. Please include your name, the campus you are running for, a little campaign blurb, your student’s name and grade, your phone number and email address.
We are holding elections at more than one campus, so it will be very important that you note in your email which campus’ PAC you are running for.
The ballot will be done electronically this year. The link to vote will go out as an announcement in the April 24th newsletter. Voting will be open until 4:00 PM on May 1st. Each family may vote for three Candidates, as we have two positions open.
The two Candidates who receive the most votes will be posted in the May 8th newsletter.
Coming to the School
To reduce exposure to our staff and families, we are no longer scheduling appointments to come into the school. All items will be distributed in a “drive through” method as outlined below. Packets will be distributed by teachers, but if you need specific student materials please email Mrs. Carman at email@example.com.
Packet Pick Up
If your student needs to pick up packets from the school, you will receive an email from the homeroom teacher with the date and time. All pick ups will happen behind the school in a “drive through” line. Teachers and instructors will stand outside to distribute packets while you stay in the car.

Emails are monitored
Parents, please monitor all communication that your students are having on the computer, including emails and group chats. We want you to know that we also have a program that monitors ALL communication, and the Academic team is alerted to anything that is troubling in the text that is sent out. This includes conversations between students.
If there are inappropriate conversations happening, you will receive a phone call from your Academic Director. Thank you so much for your help in helping our students learn proper online etiquette.
Home Learning Resources
We have developed a website page for Home Learning Resources:
We have emailed you instructions to register your students for next year. Each student needs to register with a unique code, which is provided in the attachment to the email. If you need assistance with registration please email Ms. Hickman firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have canceled all our re-enrollment meetings due to the restrictions from COVID-19. We are creating an online meeting that parents will attend virtually – it is a short video, followed by a survey.
School Lunch Update
We are not serving school lunch during the dismissal due to COVID-19. You can find locations near you that serve free breakfast and lunch to children ages 1-18 by clicking here.

COVID-19 ASSISTANCE FUND
Requests are coming in from our staff and teachers for supplies that are needed for our APA students and staff. If the Foundation had the means, we would help every APA family with financial needs. Unfortunately that’s not the case. Our Foundation gets its funding, for the most part, from school fundraisers. As fundraising at our campuses has come to a screeching halt, those funds aren’t coming in.
A suggestion was made by one of our teachers to give a portion of what you would have spent on childcare or gas money driving to and from the school to our Foundation. If you have the means, please consider making a donation to the Foundation so that we can help those families who aren’t as fortunate. To make a donation, please go to https://www.americanprepfoundation.org/donate. Thank you for your support!
FOUNDATION FACEBOOK PAGE
The Foundation has created a new page that will keep everyone informed about current fundraisers and ways that you can get involved. Please go to https://www.facebook.com/pg/americanprepfoundation and like our page to stay up-to-date. Thank you!
