I am a builder when I respect my body and mind.
Do you have enough “non-time” built into your daily routine? Non-time helps us relax enough to see the big picture and allow innovative ideas to bubble to the surface. The hustle and bustle of daily life — or even your well-intentioned morning yoga class — can scare shy, gawky, newborn-ideas, away.
- Albert Einstein was a lifelong sailor who insisted that many of his best ideas came to him while he was floating around doing nothing and enjoying his own non-time.
- Steve Jobs too was a famous loafer. “The time Steve Jobs was putting things off and noodling on possibilities was time well spent in letting more divergent ideas come to the table,” Wharton professor, Adam Grant, told Business Insider about Jobs’s long stretches of aimless non-time.
Of course, both of these geniuses then put in incredible hard work to bring their ideas to fruition. Non-time isn’t all you need to change the world. Not by a long shot. It is, however, an essential ingredient. by Jessica Stillman

Show What You Know – Dress Rehearsals & Performances – May 24 – 28
We are excited to have your students show you what they’ve learned this year! All students are expected to attend the performance in the evening. In the event that a family member cannot attend at night, we have provided the dress rehearsal times so they can watch during the day.
Kindergarten Graduation & Dress Rehearsals – May 26 & 27
The kindergarten classes have a special graduation Show What You Know during the day. Dress rehearsals are held on May 26th for those who can’t make it on the 27th.
Off-Campus Materials – due by May 27
Off-Campus students must bring all materials to the school by May 27. 4-6 grade students are taking Core Knowledge tests, so they can bring their materials and those of any younger siblings. If your off-campus teacher says you are done with curriculum materials, you are welcome to return them early.
Stay Sharp Summer Packets – distributed May 27
Each student will receive a “Summer Stay-Sharp” packet with work to be completed over the summer break. This is REQUIRED work that will be turned in on the first day of school (August 18). Directions and materials will be included in each packet.
Left unexercised, students’ academic skills begin to slide and they lose the gains that they made during the school year. We have learned that with a minimal 1 hour of academic focus each weekday during the summer, students not only maintain their pre-summer levels, but come back to school having made steady gains! These students are ready to hit the ground running – with no wasted “catch-up” month at the beginning of the school year.
Memorial Day Assemblies – Available via LiveStream!
Hawaiian Dress Day – Fun Run School Reward – June 1
Our school did an amazing job raising money for the Hardship Fund! As a prize, all our staff and students can wear Hawaiian shirts/spirit wear shirts, and jeans! Thank you for your amazing support! This was such a great opportunity to show school spirit and support the APEF Hardship Fund. A special thanks to Michelle Goudge & Jill Welch for making this event happen!
Cleaning Day – June 1
Students and teachers will be in charge of cleaning their breakout rooms and classrooms. They will be using kid-friendly solutions that have been used all year long as well as dusting and general clean-up.
Field Day – June 2
We need LOTS of volunteers to help on field day!
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b044faaab2ca1fd0-field Each volunteer will be assigned to a station where they will learn to facilitate one game or activity. Students will rotate around, so you may get to see your student, but you won’t be stationed with them the entire day. Please note: these activities will take your full attention, so please don’t bring younger children.
We need 30 2-liter soda bottles for one of the activities – please send EMPTY bottles to the reception desk.
Students can show spirit by wearing their grade’s assigned color:
- 1st – Yellow
- 2nd – Red
- 3rd – Orange
- 4th – Green
- 5th – Blue
- 6th – Purple/Black/Tie-dye
Off-Campus Testing – Reading, Math, Spelling – June 2
If you have not already done so, please sign up for a time to have your off-campus student tested. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b044faaab2ca1fd0-offcampus5
Yearbooks – June 3
Yearbooks will be distributed on the last day of school. If you did not order one, we will have a few for sale. Please email mcarman@apamail.org to arrange payment.

Buddy Poppy Donation
Last week each one of your students received a Buddy Poppy donation envelope. We ask that every student is given the opportunity to earn at least $1.00 and return it to school sealed in the provided envelope. We do not open the sealed envelopes, we give them directly to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. You are welcome to donate more, it is a very worthy cause.
These contributions are “strictly used for and dedicated entirely to Veterans welfare.” Each of our students will be given a Buddy Poppy to wear at our Memorial Day assembly, Friday, May 28th. They will be encouraged to wear them again on Memorial Day as they go through the events of the Holiday.
Our Kindergarten students won’t be able to attend the Memorial Day Assembly, we will make sure that they have a poppy to take home to wear on Memorial Day. Please feel free to donate to this very worthy cause along with the rest of our students. Click here to read more about the tradition of Buddy Poppies.

What Your Grader Needs To Know – Book Exchange
We want our students to have the current year WYGNTK book during the summer, especially for those who missed school due to COVID quarantines or were learning off-campus. If your student will not be returning to APA next year, including 6th graders going to Draper 3, we invite you to return the WYGNTK book to the school before the end of the year. We will host a book exchange at the beginning of next year.
Dockets & Name Badges
Dockets and name tags will go home with your student(s) after Tuesday, June 1st. Please put them in a safe, secure place-one that’s easy to remember. Students will need to bring both items with them when they return to school on Wednesday, August 18th.
