December Builders Theme
I am a Builder when I look for ways to serve others – Kigatsuku
This month we talk about the concept of “kigatsuku”, which describes the trait of being able to see others’ needs, to sense others’ needs, and then to strive to meet them without being asked or directed to. We hope you have seen some evidence that our students have caught on to this great concept!
We also hope that you notice it and can give them praise so they will expand upon their ability to see others’ needs! We have enjoyed watching the children in school as they have been looking out for others’ needs this month – thank you for sharing your amazing children with us!

Calling all Heroes of Hygiene . . .
There’s a little over one week left of our donation drive! So far we have collected more than 1000 items. Wow! It has been so exciting to see how much we can accomplish as we all work together to defeat germs around the world! Remember — we need: TRAVEL SIZE shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, lotion; as well as floss, packaged toothbrushes, or packaged combs.
Let’s finish strong — keep bringing in those hygiene items! The drive will end on Thursday Dec. 17th! And, if we make our goal as a campus we’ll celebrate with a Crazy Sock and Tie Day on that day! If we double our goal, we’ll celebrate with a FREE DRESS DAY (date to be announced next week).
Reading University Store – December 9
All the hours of reading is about to be rewarded! We have set up a COVID-friendly Reading University Store where students can pick prizes. Keep up the good work!

Thank You from the Character Development Team
A very heartfelt thank you to our amazing parent volunteers who came to our 5th grade event on Friday to help sanitize between stations, safely serve food, assist our teachers at each station, etc. We can’t do our events without you and we appreciate you BEYOND any words that we can express!
Missing School for Non-Medical Reasons
Please remember to schedule trips and vacations during one of our many breaks. We typically have a one-week break every 7 weeks. When your student misses school, they are missing valuable information that is difficult to give to them in a packet, and they often have a tricky time getting caught up. Our teachers are so busy gathering materials for students home sick or on quarantine – please don’t add to their workload.
Winter Dress for Recess
To reduce the number of students on the playground at one time, some classes have recess early in the morning when the temperature can be cold. Please send students with warm winter coats, gloves, a hat and a scarf (if needed). We encourage you to label all items, especially coats! When it’s extremely cold, instructors will keep students inside for recess and/or shorten time outside.
COVID Quarantine Updates
The Utah Department of Health has updated the quarantine guidelines. Those who have been exposed to COVID-19 are now required to quarantine only 10 days. This means more time back in school for our students! https://coronavirus-download.utah.gov/Health/Care_Booklet_English.pdf
If your student tests positive or is exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, please contact nurse@apamail.org. The nurse will inform the school directors and teachers.

It has been great to see so many of your smiling faces at the end of the driveway in the mornings and afternoons during carpool. Thank you for making my job easier by showing up at your assigned carpool time and not turning left in or out of the driveway. I appreciate you!
