Hello American Prep families,
I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and had some extra special time with your families!
First, I’d like to thank EVERYONE who is working so hard to make school a reality! Our teachers and staff members, and our students, are doing a wonderful job of implementing the requirements for school operation under the COVID regulations. It has been a wonderful thing to be together in the schools, and our students are receiving a wonderful education. Our off-campus students are working hard, too, and in spite of the challenges, learning is happening! Again, let me emphasize how grateful we are for all of the efforts being put forth every day to make school successful. We are so fortunate to have an amazing school community that is working so well together! Thank you!!!
Following is the current state with regard to COVID cases at our campuses:
West Valley 1 – No cases
West Valley 2 – 2 cases – 1 student, 1 staff member
Draper 1 – 12 cases; 7 staff, 5 students
Draper 2 – No cases
Draper 3 – 3 cases; all students
ELC – 1 case – student
Salem – No cases
We also have numerous students at West Valley 2, Draper 3, Draper 1 and the ELC who are quarantined to do possible exposure. These students are not sick, and have not had a positive test, so they are not considered “cases”. They were exposed to someone who did test positive. The exposure could have been from someone in their family, or someone at school, or someone on a team they are on, etc.
Due to the high number of cases at Draper 1, we paused the on-campus program at Draper 1 campus and shifted all students to remote learning for the past week. Students return to school there tomorrow. We continue to see high case counts at Draper 1 compared to our other campuses, and we have been working to see if there are additional things we can do to mitigate the spread. Draper 1 campus leaders, staff and students have been meticulous about their mask wearing, and the building is clean and is being regularly sanitized, just like at all our campuses. We have sought input from others who specialize in environmental safety to see if they have any ideas that might help us curb the spread there. We are encouraging all our staff at D1 to wear the KN95 masks as they provide superior protection over the cloth masks.
Again, we appreciate everyone’s strong efforts to remain positive and supportive in this trying time. We are grateful for our wonderful American Prep community.
