COVID Update 10.9.20
Hello APA families and Staff!
Following is this week’s COVID report:
Draper 1: Cases – 0, Quarantined – 5
Draper 2: Cases – 1, Quarantined – 9
Draper 3: Cases – 0, Quarantined – 0
West Valley 1: Cases – 2, Quarantined – 21
West Valley 2: Cases – 2, Quarantined – 23
Salem: Cases – 1, Quarantined – 28
ELC: Cases – 0, Quarantined – 0
We received very good news today from the Utah Department of Health!
In the future, if a student is exposed at school, and was wearing a mask, and needs to quarantine, the student may be tested on day 7 of the quarantine and if their test is negative they may return to school! This has the potential to cut down quarantine times by half! This change was made after the health department looked at a lot of data that shows that by day 7 a great percentage of those who eventually get COVID from an exposure have the virus and it will show on a test. So, conversely, if a test is given on day 7 and is negative the person is not a carrier.
Have a wonderful fall break!

September Builders Theme – I am a Builder when I demonstrate integrity
I am a Builder when I demonstrate integrity. Integrity is that quality of doing what is right even when no one is watching. Our students are working on doing that this month. Sometimes what seems a very simple demonstration of integrity is very challenging for a child. The more often we name and notice a child’s demonstration of integrity, the more often they are willing to try something more difficult. We are focusing on integrity this month, so please use this great opportunity to notice when your child has demonstrated integrity and tell them.

Professional Qualifications
Our parent surveys consistently express confidence and overwhelming satisfaction with our teachers at American Prep. Parents are welcome at any time to request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers including: 1) whether the teacher has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction or whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; 2) the baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and 3) whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
District Parent Involvement Policy
At the conclusion of each school year, end-of-year assessment data is reported and organized into a Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA). The CNA includes demographic, attendance, and assessment data. Also included in the CNA are the results of the annual Parent Survey. This Survey evaluates, among other things, the satisfaction of parents with the quality of the academic program and their opportunities to participate in the schools. American Preparatory administrators annually invite select staff and parents from each school to participate in a District/School Planning Meeting. This Committee reviews the Comprehensive Needs Assessment and analyzes areas for potential improvement. District/School Plans are developed with goals, action steps, and budget relationships. District and School Parent Involvement Policies are evaluated for effectiveness. School, Parent, and Student Compacts are also examined by this Committee for recommended changes.
School Parent Involvement Policies
School Parent Involvement Policies vary slightly by campus and are located within the Parent-Student Handbooks. These Handbooks are distributed annually to parents and will soon be accessible on the APA website under the Parent Library drop-down tab. The Handbooks can also be accessed via this link: https://www.americanprep.org/parent-student-handbooks/.

Constitution Day
On September 17, 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the most influential document in American history, the U.S. Constitution. All of our American Prep Schools celebrated this by reading the original document as part of a KSL Live broadcast. Here is a link to that broadcast.

Voting Rights for Women
Mrs. Burkholder, one of our amazing 6th grade teachers celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the 19th amendment, giving all women in the United States the right to vote. Check out her video explaining this important milestone in our country’s history.
Be a Builder
Builders
I saw them tearing a building down,
A gang of men in a busy town.
With a ‘yo heave ho’ and a lusty yell,
They swung a beam and the sidewall fell.
I asked the foreman if these men were as skilled
As those he would hire if he were to build.
He laughed and said, “Oh, no indeed,
Common labor is all I need,
For they can wreck in a day or two,
What builders have taken years to do.”
So I asked myself, as I went my way,
Which of these roles am I to play?
Am I the builder, who works with care,
Measuring life by the rule and square;
Or am I the wrecker who walks the town,
Content in the role of tearing down?
I’ve made my decision; I’ll start today,
I’ll be a builder in every way!

ON CAMPUS – Meet and Greet Information
Parents,
Here is information about our Meet and Greet tomorrow. There is still road construction on Lone Peak Parkway, so please come in from the north and turn right into our campus and right going out. Please park on the east side of the school by the sheepfield and then use the crosswalks to come into the school.
This event so students can find out who their teacher is and to get information about the upcoming school year. Students DO NOT need to be in their uniforms. We will have stations for school lunches, busing, pick-up tags and enrollment questions.
Teacher Meet and Greet – August 14th – ON CAMPUS STUDENTS ONLY
All of our On-Campus students are invited to come to the school and meet their teachers! In an effort to facilitate social distancing, please come at the following times:
- Families new to APA 9:00 am – 10:00 am
- Last Name A – N 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Last Name O – Z 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Pick Up Tags Available – August 14th
Pick up times and curbs have been assigned to all families. We worked hard to keep last year’s assignments the same as much as possible but, in trying to balance the volume of cars on campus, we have made some adjustments. We have a new feature in Skyward so parents will know their pick up assignments. Log in to your account and click on the BUSING tab. Families can fill out a form to request a different time and curb if needed. This form can be found in Skyward.
We look forward to seeing many of our families and don’t forget your masks!
Sincerely,
Administrative Director
