It has been a busy summer and we are still wrapping up a few building projects. One of the bigger and more exciting projects was the addition of new equipment on our playground. We know that our students will be very excited about all the new equipment and have just a couple of more pieces to install over the next week.
Michael Sharette
We received some sad news this past week about our APA family. Michael Sharette, son of our Executive Director, Carolyn Sharette, passed away last week. He worked and has been part of our APA family for years. The Sharette family appreciates all the love, care and support from everyone and welcomes all that want to attend services for Michael. Here is a link to the obituary.
Summer Projects!
Summer is always busy with different projects and we have started on many of them. New carpet has been installed throughout the hallways and common areas. Outside on the playground we have broken ground to install new pieces of equipment and install a new surface! This will be a very welcome addition providing more active equipment choices for students during recess.
Teacher Post Service
As part of our school improvement process, our teachers spend a week analyzing the data collected and using the experience gained throughout the year to improve what we do as a school. This post service week is a valuable and important part of our improvement process. While your students have started to rest, relax and shift into summer activities, our teachers have been super busy and engaged with each other to make our school better. Thank you teachers for your concentration and efforts this week!
Last Day of School 2018-2019
It is always a bittersweet day when we end the school year. Although we would love to continue working with all these amazing students, it is important that they have some time to shift their learning into a different mode. We hope our students continue reading and are safe with all the different summer activities. We look forward to seein many of the next year. Have a great summer!
Field Day!
This is always one of the students’ favorite days of the year. Thanks to our amazing FSO Team and our creative and inventive parents our students enjoyed a wide variety of games. Each grade wore special t-shirts that many of them customized. Even our front office had their t-shirts customized by Mrs. Strickland. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers that helped make special memories for our students.
Volunteer Power!
Thank you to our super hero parent volunteers that came in and handled our curriculum check-in! They took care in a day what would have taken our small curriculum staff weeks to accomplish. This is just one of the many examples of how the many contributions of our parent community makes a huge positive impact for our school. THANK YOU!
Memorial Day Commemoration
One of our great American Prep traditions is our annual Memorial Day Commemoration. It is an incredible event where our students learn about the founding and true meaning of Memorial Day. President Lincoln established the first Memorial Day (originally called Decoration Day) in 1868 and now we celebrate it on the last Monday in May. We were fortunate to have Mr. Kevin Barnes join us to remember his son Nathan Barnes, killed in 2007, for the commemoration. Thank you Mr. Barnes for sharing Nathan’s story and for all of those soldiers that have given their lives while serving our country. Please observe a moment of silence at 3 pm this Monday in remembrance of those soldiers who have died while serving our country.
Fun Run!
What a GREAT Event! Mother Nature provided us with a sunshine window between rain storms and there was an incredible turnout. There were over 950 racers and so many extra fans enjoying the racing, food trucks and silent auction. Our preliminary fundraising total was over $25,000! What an amazing community event!
Read this Book!
This is a very informative and interesting book about the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of this very important engineering and human achievement, this book gives one the opportunity to find out more about the many people and effort it took to accomplish such an incredible feat. It would make a great summer time book, check it out at your local library or order it from Amazon Smile!
